As a 10-year member of the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA), Related Midwest has long admired the organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the construction industry. Its emphasis on creating opportunities for women and minority-owned businesses is exactly why we joined a decade ago.
This year, we’re thrilled to announce that Related Midwest’s LR Contracting is the 2023 winner of the HACIA General Contractor of the Year award. This honor is extra special to us because it recognizes the guiding principle of LR Contracting: As leaders in the construction industry, we have a responsibility to lead with our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
LR Contracting prioritizes creating a positive impact in the communities in which we work, and we’ve done so while awarding more than $337 million in contracts to minority- and women-owned businesses over the past 10 years. On average, this equates to 43% of our team on affordable and mixed-income projects.
But we know that we could not lead in our DE&I efforts without the collaboration of our partners. The work to transform an industry requires the commitment of the entire ecosystem, and our partners are dedicated to this shared vision. We couldn’t do it without them, and that’s why we’re so proud to receive this award on behalf of all those whose tireless work is already making this industry a fairer, more equitable space with opportunity for all.
