As we prepare to celebrate Women’s History Month, it’s only fitting we spotlight an inspiring group of female leaders who participated in this year’s “Curating Connections” networking series, hosted by Related Midwest. Now in its second year, “Curating Connections” is a series of panel events that brings together professionals in development, architecture and construction to foster positive change in their communities.

The first event of 2025 focused on real estate development and featured a distinguished panel of women who are driving innovation in the industry. Moderated by Related’s own Sarah Wick, Senior Vice President of Affordable Housing, the conversation centered on creating vibrant neighborhoods in which everyone can thrive, contribute and feel a sense of belonging. Panelists shared practical ideas, inspiring success stories and forward-thinking solutions for community growth.

Meet the Panelists

  • Bonita Harrison, CEO and Lead Developer of Sunshine Management. Bonita has led the revitalization of over 100 properties, creating 300 jobs for diverse groups, including people of color, returning citizens and women entrepreneurs. She spearheaded the “Buy Back the Block” initiative in West Woodlawn and became the first Black woman to win Developer of the Year from The Cook County Land Bank.
  • Veronica Gonzalez, Assistant Vice President of the NHP Foundation. With 20 years of experience, Veronica specializes in managing mixed-finance multifamily redevelopments for public housing authorities, municipalities and private affordable housing developers.
  • Jeanne Peck, Principal, Darrow Peck Investments and Consulting. A real estate financing expert with 23 years of experience, Jeanne has closed over $3 billion in construction loans, permanent financing, acquisitions and loan workouts. She is dedicated to investing in and consulting for underserved communities and individual affordable housing projects.

Eris Brewery & Cider House, a woman-owned business based in Old Irving Park, provided refreshments for the evening, adding a perfect touch to the celebration.

The “Curating Connections” series will continue throughout the year, with upcoming events focused on construction this summer and architecture this fall. Stay tuned for more opportunities to connect, collaborate and create meaningful impact.
