Project Overview

400 Lake Shore

Rising at the confluence of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, 400 Lake Shore will reshape the skyline with two residential towers, creating a visual gateway to the city at the place of its founder, Jean-Baptiste Point DuSable. This luxury development, built by LR Contracting Company and BOWA Construction, will bring new luxury and affordable housing options along the lakefront as well as add 4.5 acres of open and green space. 400 Lake Shore also brings with it the completion of two long-awaited public amenities: the 3.3 acre DuSable Park and the completion of the north end of Chicago's famed Riverwalk.

Design Overview

Designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill with David Childs

400 Lake Shore, designed by the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill with David Childs comprises a pair of residential towers articulated with terraces that cascade down the eastern facades. Positioned at an angle toward the cityscape, the two tapering silhouettes frame a stunning view of the lake. The buildings’ glass and metal curtain walls draw inspiration from the classic “Chicago window” – a bay window design that is a hallmark of the city’s historic architecture. Reimagined as a shallow bay of floor-to-ceiling glass, with metal detailing mirroring the rippling surface of Lake Michigan, these features create a design that is both sophisticated and in harmony with its waterfront setting. Building interiors have been designed by MAWD, whose work includes Related's Row Fulton Market.
